Driver- Locomotive Fuel Tech-Guernsey

Description:

To safety load, haul and unload diesel fuel as requested by our customer(s) in accordance with Company and customer Standard Operating Procedures. Additionally, DTL Fuel Techs may be required to perform minor service work on locomotives, such as, topping off traction sand tanks, adding engine oil, coolant, evacuating toilets, cleaning locomotive cabs, etc.

Duties:

Supporting Objective(s):
 Commit to working in an occurrence free manner. Meaning no spills, no injuries and no property damage;
 Receive and issue fuel by following Standard Operating Procedures 100% of the time – without exception;
 Transfer fuel without spills using accepted spill prevention methods;
 Perform all locomotive service tasks in accordance with the Locomotive Servicing Procedures;
 Locomotive Service may include:
- Inspecting and replacing worn brake shoes;
- Checking, and if necessary, adding lube oil, cooling water and crank case oil to the locomotive;
- Check, and if necessary, adding traction sand to the locomotive sand hoppers;
- Cleaning the locomotive cab, removing trash, restocking crew supplies and toilet evacuation;
 Respond to dispatches in a timely manner;
 Complete all administrative paperwork accurately, completely and in a timely manner;
 Understand and use the Eagle Eye system where appropriate;
 Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required 100% of the time;
 Conduct comprehensive pre and post shift vehicle and equipment inspections;
 Report incidents (operational and/or safety related), as instructed, in a timely manner;
 Use Blue Flag protection and follow all customer safety rules and regulations at all times;
 Control, contain and report any spill in accordance with Company Spill Reporting procedures;
 Maintain accurate Hours of Service logs and/or time sheets and submit them in a timely manner;
 Assist with the maintenance and upkeep of the vehicles and equipment as able and/or qualified;
 Commit to following Savage’s standards of Professionalism and Cleanliness;
 Commit to be a reliable, safe and positive team member;
 Other duties as assigned by divisional management;

Interface With The Rest Of The Company:

This position will work closely with other team members and management at the assigned location. Additionally, they may have to travel to other Savage locations to help during times of special need. Finally, there may be limited travel required for training purposes.

Qualifications:

Skills And Abilities:
 Must have a Class A CDL with hazardous materials and tanker endorsements;
 Must be able to clear all background checks required by the Company, customer and government;
 Individuals are responsible for maintaining all required licenses and certifications in a current and valid status at all times;
 Must be able to read, write and understand English;
 Must be reliable and dependable;
 Must know when to ask for help;
 Moderate computer skills are required;
 Must be able to work independently and with minimal supervision;
 Should be willing to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends and holidays. Shifts may rotate;

Physical And Environmental Issues:

 This position is required to work outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions;
 Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds on an occasional basis;
 Must be able to climb steps and ladders;
 Cannot have a fear of heights, will have to get on the top of trailers and equipment as necessary;
 Work schedules will vary from day to day, depending on train schedules. Some days may be very busy and others may be very slow;
